“The dream was always running ahead of me. To catch up, to live for a moment in unison with it, that was the miracle.” ~ Anais Nin

Wow, hard to believe Fall 2012 is here and gorgeous….when I am still thinking about last year’s rocking great season full of wonderful sessions! So my goal is to post several in a row from last year, so that I can finally catch up and get on the right track for 2013! This is one of my favorite little guys – I have captured his portrait since he was a baby, and these might be my most favorite!

I love seeing families as they grow: both in numbers and size! And I was reminded of this, as I have a portrait session this week with this featured family of kids that I had the pleasure of capturing when they added their fifth. I can only imagine the daily handful, and I am so impressed how sweet the big brothers always are with the little ones, especially number four, their baby sister! I am still posting lots of portrait sessions from last year, but just had to share this one – and I will look forward to comparing these to their new portraits this year!
“Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch, you know that I love you! I can’t help myself , I love you and nobody else!” ~ The Temptations
I was a hostess for a friends’ baby shower this weekend, and headed over to The Pie Shop to pick up my delish pies (we devoured Key Lime Pie and a Chocolate Banana Torte!!!), and it was fun to peruse the fun lyrics and poems that featured pies written all over their walls. I love this classic from The Temptations, and it reminded me of this session I had in April with this little Honey Bunch, who I have captured since birth. We had a wonderful spring morning out in the flowers for her two-year-old session!

I love new additions to the family, and this one was a sweet baby boy with the biggest baby blues! During that first year, which is so exciting yet exhausting for the family, I like to capture all of the tiny features, hands and feet during our portraits to document how little they were. And this 20×20 Baby Parts collage is the perfect showcase for all those bits and pieces. For this client, she had a special portrait she wanted to recreate just like a cousin had taken in the same outfit, and it turned out precious!
When the calendar turns to the beginning of the school year, I get excited for all of my fall photos shoots and taking great client portraits that also can be used for Christmas cards. Throughout my blog posts, I have featured how the photos were incorporated into cards, but I had a few extra favorites that I wanted to share, including my own. Last year, my friend Crystal held her annual fall South of Hampton trunk show, which featured the gorgeousness of Trabeautiful Designs, Bespoke Stationery from Nashville, TN. With a fab selection of custom-made stationery including announcements, invitations, social stationery, calling cards, and Christmas cards, several clients had unique cards created from their session. Top of the line quality combined with unique designs were the perfect compliment to my portraits!
In addition, many of my clients choose to order their holiday cards through my store fronts at either Minted.com or Tiny Prints, so click below to check them out:

P.S. My fall is quickly booking up, so be sure to reserve your spot today for portraits!
* We ended up using the “blue” scarf photo (above), but I couldn’t resist popping in this red option!
And here’s the card that I sent out to our family and friends that I designed myself! I LOVE cards that have an actual photograph, so I really love to hand-craft my cards, and this year was no exception – I wanted a fun and colorful card to compliment the whimsical beach portraits I took in the fall. It turned out to be one of my most favorite cards ever! I do have card templates, if you are interested in something fresh and different!

I am always on the lookout for cool, new spots for photo shoots. And at the top of my list has been a great graffiti wall – I had found one in Atlanta last spring, but it was not in the safest of places, so I haven’t taken any clients there, let alone clients. So this summer, after picking up our girls from camp, we headed to visit family in Chicago for a fun visit. Lo and behold, when we pulled up to their condo, the most amazing graffiti wall I had ever seen was right. across. the street. I had a ball shooting my kids, plus my nephew, at my new favorite spot! Too bad it’s only 1,000+ miles away from my house! Enjoy the color!

The transitions between the seasons is always such a pleasure in Atlanta…after a long summer, the first nip of coolness in the air gets everyone excited to be outside again. And so it goes with birthdays, especially when you have little ones. You start to mark the passing of seasons and milestones, such as birthdays, and school days, and vacation. I love to help my clients mark the passage of time with timeless, fun portraits, especially ones that are meaningful to the eye of the beholder. This particular shoot marked a first year celebration, and we wanted a non-traditional, Midtown-inspired feel to the portraits, which we achieved at one of my new favorite locations (and also features delish cupcakes!). And just because Daddy prefers Irishness, that didn’t stop us from posing in front of a British telephone booth! Cheers!
For more than 14 years, I have been a proud member of the Junior League of Atlanta, having served on its Board twice, and for the past several years, as a League photographer and on the 100th Anniversary committee. This year I am thrilled that one of my dear friends is the President of the League, and I have the pleasure of capturing her throughout the year and to be featured in our League’s magazine, Peachtree Papers. For the fall issue, I shot the President’s Message Portrait, as well as several family shots for the Board of Directors. For this family session, the location featured is one of the League’s community partners, the Atlanta Botanical Garden. A beautiful session in the gardens culminated in some fun family portraits at one of my favorite Atlanta spots.
Fashionistas everywhere know all about the allure and rich history of the Hermes Birkin bag, and it’s extra special in their signature orange leather. And my friend “A” is a fashionista, so I envisioned her baby’s 9-month shoot paired up with his mom’s gams, some fabulous Louboutin’s and her very own Birkin….the results are one of my favorite shoots ever. But I went one step further, and placed baby “D” in the Birkin – he fit perfectly! And did I mention he’s got the cutest baby blues too?
Back during my public relations career, I had the pleasure of working with the Hermes store in Dallas. I still love to pass on the tip that my boss Julia taught me from one of the Hermes family: the company’s name is pronounced like an “air mess”! Sometime let me demonstrate one of my specialities: all the ways you can tie an Hermes scarf!
“The art of mothering is to teach the art of living to children.” ~ Elain Heffner
I love this quote, and it seems appropriate as I feature precious shots of the newest addition – the fourth! – to a wonderful family.
This chunk-a-hunk of love has been so fun to capture over the past year at his milestones, and his personality shines in these portraits! Cheers!
