One of my favorite holidays is the 4th of July: I love the gathering of family, fun activities (sometimes a Peachtree Road Race!), and the fireworks. I also love the color combination of red, white and blue: Just check out my logo. But it’s not just a new thing for me: back in the mid-80s, on my first trip to NYC, I wanted a souvenier of my visit. I was enthralled with the Ralph Lauren store, and the very first edition of his flag sweaters had just been released, and I snatched one up. Which then lead to my obsession with flag sweaters. I still have my “vintage” sweater(s) and love to wear them when it gets really cold in Atlanta.
Throughout the month of July in Highlands, North Carolina, I had a series of family shoots, and I couldn’t wait to capture this family on the 4th of July at their stunningly beautiful mountain home. It was right before the festivities of the day got started, so everyone was in their red, white and blue attire and looking forward to spending the day together. Enjoy a few from the vibrant session – Cheers!
The family logo is a red canoe with “Tippecanoe” so we incorporated the red canoe into some of the portraits!
And one of just the cousins, with new ones on the way!
Fashionistas everywhere know all about the allure and rich history of the Hermes Birkin bag, and it’s extra special in their signature orange leather. And my friend “A” is a fashionista, so I envisioned her baby’s 9-month shoot paired up with his mom’s gams, some fabulous Louboutin’s and her very own Birkin….the results are one of my favorite shoots ever. But I went one step further, and placed baby “D” in the Birkin – he fit perfectly! And did I mention he’s got the cutest baby blues too?
Back during my public relations career, I had the pleasure of working with the Hermes store in Dallas. I still love to pass on the tip that my boss Julia taught me from one of the Hermes family: the company’s name is pronounced like an “air mess”! Sometime let me demonstrate one of my specialities: all the ways you can tie an Hermes scarf!
My girls = my favorite subjects! And love me some touch of Florabella!
“Sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero.” ~ Marc Brown
One of my favorite phone calls: “I need photos before <insert child’s name> loses their front teeth!” (Side note: my other favorite call is “We just lost our front teeth!” – I am a sucker for before and after shots!). We headed out for an adventure at a new location and boy, did we have a fun afternoon. I could just eat these brothers up, and not only did we capture the moments before the teeth fell out, we got some super portraits to boot!

When the pink and white azaleas burst in Atlanta, it’s really like no other beauty.
And when I have a new bright green chair and sweet girls to boot, it’s a great combination in my opinion!
“All for one and one for all
My brother and my friend
What fun we have
The time we share
Brothers ’til the end.” ~ author unknown
One…two…three brothers! Best way to catch this much enthusiasm is through individual portraits, which perfectly coincide with baby brother’s first year portraits. Another stunningly beautiful spring morning in Atlanta, only made better by capturing three boys each full of their own personality!
One thing I want to teach my children is that things come and go, and it’s all good. And one area that this plays out nicely is hair: long or short, it will grow. So when A missed a couple of haircuts, and her hair is growing like one of those Barbie’s I had from the 80s, next thing I know, she’s going to cut it and donate it. Flash forward 18-months later: we took some lovely “long hair” portraits with some of the beautiful spring blooms, then we headed to our trusted hairdresser, who had also cut my hair short for a donation a few years back. A had 9 inches, which was not enough for Locks of Love (minimum 10 inches needed) but perfect for Pantene’s Beautiful Length’s (minimum 8 inches needed). The only downside was when little brother got hold of one of the ponytails and played with the hair!
So if you are growing your locks for love, why not capture the moment – before and after. Contact us for information on special portrait mini sessions for “hair” portraits.
“Isn’t she lovely? Isn’t she wonderful? Isn’t she precious?” ~ Stevie Wonder
Newborns are so full of squishy love – and Baby C was the perfect model at week one! And she posed so nicely in a special hat that was one of her first gifts. We were lucky to have some wide-eyed time, and super sleepy mode. I simply adore newborns, and this Stevie Wonder song always makes me think of my own!
“You are so much sunshine to the square inch!” ~ Walt Whitman
I love the bright colors of spring, especially hot pink and lime green! Pair some beautiful girlies with fun tutus and the possibilities are endless. Here’s a sampling of the fun session celebrating the loss of two front teeth and dreamy days ahead for summer! One of my favorite friends is going to love pairing these up on her beach house walls!
“I can see clearly now, the rain is gone. Here is the rainbow I’ve been praying for. It’s gonna be a bright, bright sunshiny day!” ~ Johnny Nash
Spring has sprung, and I can’t wait to hit some of my favorite locations for some greenery and sunshiny days! I captured these boys during spring break, and while their mom was happy to get portraits of all three, they were more excited to get started on some fun! Enjoy the weather!
